Here
are some of our most FAQ - if you don't see yours answered here, email
us and we'll be happy to get back to you.
As
an artist or producer, how do I know if I will receive quality submissions?
Can
you tell me who your songwriters have had cuts with?
Where
do you get your listings or tips from?
Where are the
listings from?
What does it cost to subscribe?
Are
there any additional fees?
What does Songbridge get
out of this?
How
good should my demo quality be?
There
is a spot on your form that requests label & studio time date etc - do you need
that exact info to fill out the form? If
I write a song, do I own it and will I receive payment for it's use?
How
many songs have you placed? We don't place songs,
you, the writers do, we just give you the skinny on who is looking. Truthfully
though we have helped place songs with almost every artist, producer or manager
who has given us their request for song submissions. I must point out that the
path a song takes from you the writer, to an artist, producer, then into the studio,
to the final mix and final cut, to the radio and to the airwaves is long and arduous
and can take up to 18 months or more, so songs we've help place you haven't heard
yet! Some artists, have have found up to 5 songs for a single project, there is
no doubt we connect songs to projects. Recently we have created our testimonial
page.
Do
you accept Lyrics only? No,
none of the listings are from musicians looking for lyricists nor are they artists
looking for lyrics to write to. The folks who post a request for songs with us,
want well produced demos, almost radio quality. They are often not writers. We
suggest you look into the available lyricists sites and contests such as the Great
Lakes Songwriting Competition, Narrative
Music Canada, the John Lennon
songwriting contest, the International
Songwriting competition, and Song
Lyricist.
Where
do you get your listings or tips from? We
receive our info directly from the artist, producer or manager. They come to our
site, fill out the form and bingo it's added, or they simply email me the info.
How
do I register my songs to protect them? Library of
Congress in the United States, and the Legal Song Depository in Canada. (find
info on them via the Songwriters Association of Canada). In Canada you can't register
a song with SOCAN the royalty collection agency until it is recorded and released.
Tried and true method of mailing of a copy to yourself, registered mail and don't
open it til you are battling someone in court! Write the song title(s) on the
outside of the envelope.
Where
are the listings from? About
one third are US artists with the balance Canadian.
Can
you tell me who has used Songbridge? We'd
be glad to - our growing list of who has come to Songbridge looking for songs
can be found here.
What
does it cost to subscribe? Once
approved we will provide a link for subscription for these options:
Trial
- 3 months for $60.00 CDN $59.00 US Basic -
6 months for $115.00 CDN $93.00 US Premium
- 12 months for $225.00CDN $193.00 US
Are
there any additional fees? No,
the only thing you have to pay is your subscription fee and you have a choice
of signing up for 3 months, 6 months or a full years worth of service. No
one else offers you that.
What
does Songbridge get out of this? Songbridge
is not a middle man, we don't take a piece of your publishing pie, we don't have
any hidden fees or additional costs, once you are a subscriber. Look at us like
this, an online newspaper with "songs wanted" ads. You just pay for the subscription
to that paper. That's it.
How
do I license my songs? We
have forms you can download on our site first - to authorize permission for the
artist to use it, then as a form for pressing (mechanical license). What
is so surprising is the idea of spending all that money on recording, manufacturing,
jacket design and marketing it, and not getting permission to use the songs and
winding up in a legal jumble! It's so simple to avoid that, so why take the
risk? More

There
is a spot on your form that requests label & studio, time, date etc - do you need
that exact info to fill out the form? No, that is an option to fill out
for those that DO have that info. If you are releasing it independently you can
simply state "Indie Label" . I would like to suggest though that the more info
you fill in, ie producer, manager, session dates etc. the more likely it is, that
you will receive solid submissions. There are two policies songwriters adopt.
One is to send everything to everyone ( throw enough stuff out something will
stick) Second is, only send songs to artists with a high career level. If you
look like you got it goin' on, it will encourage higher song submissions.
Do
you have any testimonial/success stories placing songs using Songbridge? Yes
we certainly do!! You can view a selection of them here
How
good should my demo quality be? Most
successful writers would agree a good song is a good song, no matter how it is
presented. The fact is though, it's usually not a songwriter you are sending your
material to - it's a manager, a label or publisher, whose job is to find that
"gem". More information >>
If
I write a song, do I own it and will I receive payment for it's use? SOCAN
administers royalties for radio play, public performances, synchronization rights
(for film and television) and blank tape tariffs. SOCAN is the only royalty collection
agency in Canada. Each country has it's own agency there are two to choose from
in the US - ASCAP and
BMI. More

As
an artist or producer, how do I know if I will receive quality submissions? Songwriters
and publishers must show professional status by submitting a list of songs published
or released. Non-professionals
or "self published" writers may be eligible to receive the pro pitch sheet by
submitting a 2 song MP3 or CD to our staff.
Can
you tell me who your songwriters have had cuts with? Yes
of course we can! You can view our listings here.
