Songbridge
provides a weekly "pitch sheet" full of "song wanted" ads to its songwriting and
publishing members. Artists, producers, labels and management looking for great
material post their ads and we send it out weekly with articles of news and info
to writers world wide. We are a resource for industry news and information, association
links, festival links as well as interviews with premier songwriters, producers,
record exec's and more. Songbridge is full of tips, resources and insight into
the craft of songwriting and writers can post listings to other songwriters for
collaboration opportunities as well.
Although Songbridge began as a company
focusing on supporting Canadian songwriters, by connecting them to the people
looking for material, it has grown to become an international resource, with writers
and publishers from Canada the US and the UK signing on. Approximately one third
of the site traffic and artist postings are US based artists with the majority
being Canadian. President Jana Reid states "there is a very large cross section
of music in demand on our site, which is exactly what I had hoped to see represented".
Reid is also currently the President of AMI
-Amsterdam Management Inc., which has been an artist management company (Steve
Fox, Duane Steele, Tracey James, Wendell Ferguson), a record label and a publishing
company for 17 years. VP position at Songbridge is held by Kathryn Smit who maintains
and designed the online services.

Jana Lee Reid’s first job
in the music industry was at Paramount Records’ pressing plant in the late 70's.
From there she secured a job at Sound Canada, a popular recording studio in Toronto
run by Art Snider, recently inducted as one of Canada’s leading contributors in
Canadian Music. | | | She
worked for Art as receptionist and soon after began studying audio engineering
to further her understanding of the music business which she thought would help
her as a songwriter. Jana spent years on the road, performing and writing, acting
recording and winning numerous awards. |  | Jana
studied opera for many years and sang jazz, country, blues, pop and rock and eventually
ended her performance career to raise a
family. She didn’t leave the industry,
but began working for AMI Amsterdam Management Inc. a record label, publishing
company and artist management company representing Juno nominees, Steve Fox, Duane
Steele and Wendell Ferguson as well as the actor Leslie Nielsen. Her job description
covered everything from concert production, contract negotiation, design and implementation
of promotional materials, poster design, press releases, licensing of music, and
representation at all major industry conferences. She has 27 years of 'on hands'
experience within the industry as well as thousands of contacts and she is also
a member of SOCAN, CCMA, CARAS, ATAA, OSAC, WCMA, COCA and CCI. |
Kathryn
Smit will be designing and maintaining the online services of Songbridge.
Kathryn has over seven years of experience ranging from designing websites to
corporate logos, and graphics. | | Through
her company DEZIGN, she
provides innovative Web design services for a variety of clients. She uses Photoshop,
BladePro, FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and PaintShopPro in her professional
toolbox. Kathryn has written articles for Womenlinks and other online groups,
and has done seminar reporting for Toronto Web Grrls and was featured Web Grrl
for January 2000. |  |
She has volunteered for teaching Advanced HTML courses offered to the 3000+ membership,
as well as participating in creating web sites for charities in her community
and participating in Career Days and other seminars. Affiliations: HTML writers
Guild; Canadian Entrepreneurial Women; Graphics Guild, Trent Hills & District
Chamber of Commerce.
