Steve
tells us -
"I was writing with a fellow. Let's call him Dude for now.
Dude had the footprints of his little children across his guitar and I loved that.
I immediately thought, however silently, what a great title "Little Footprints"
would make. I say silently because I just felt that it was something I needed
to write myself at a later date. Nothing against Dude. It marinated for some time
until about 4am one night at my cabin I woke up with some chunks of lyric stuck
in my throat. As I got up and expelled them onto paper more of the lyric came
to me and I realized that it was becoming a "thank you" song to my wife Jan, for
the three children she has given us. It sounds corny but it really did come straight
from the heart.
And further to that thought, one of my closest friends
was dying of cancer in 05 and I was devastated and heart broken. She had been
my friend most of my adult life and my manager for about four years. Just a couple
of weeks before she passed away I received a call from a women who told me she'd
been looking for me because a song of mine called "Little Footprints" which had
won first place in the Country category in the International Song Writing contest.
I was unaware that my song was even entered. That was one of the plums that my
amazing and wonderful friend threw over her shoulder before she left this world.
I miss her now and forever."

Footprints Steve Fox
I
told him better take your muddy boots off I said your mamas gonna freak right
out when she sees this mess And you can blame it on me, cause he was only
following daddy I don't like to think about when there was only one pair
of shoes by the front door thought I was alright on my own thanks to you
those days are gone You stopped me in my tracks Now I can see the future
every time that I look back
Little foot prints following me Little
foot prints brand new Little hands that hold my heart are only there because
of you Little foot prints following me so I walk more carefully cause
what I do and where I go is gonna wind up there too
I know He says
daddy what we gonna do now I got my bucket and my shovel and Im ready when
you are I pack a cooler and I grab my keys, next thing I know we're on the
the beach Listening to shells for the sound of the sea It's just a lake
in Middle Tennessee It wouldn't matter if we were on mars Cause I belong
right where you are And this might be heaven now At least I start to think
so every time I look down at the
Chorus
Oh you and god must have
made a plan to teach me how to care save my life to make me better and to prove
to me his love is there.. it's in Chorus… Little foot prints following
me Little foot prints brand new Little hands that hold my heart are only
there because of you Little foot prints following me so I walk more carefully
cause how I act, and what I say what I do and where I go is gonna wind up
there too I know
